Boyfish, no mermaid I.
Not within the depth of sea or sky
will you find a body sleek as mine
and made for dancing between waters
and made for flitting through the shadows
and made for coiling on the bottom
of the waiting sea
waiting, if you are a boy, for a boy like you or me.
Boyfish, unlike a mermaid, I
am fully fish in heart and head
as cold as the dead
I grace no rocks with siren song
but I long, I long
and as for the underpart of me
it rolls with the urgent beat of the sea
longing, if you are a boy, for a boy like you or me.
Boyfish, boy in body, fish in mind
longing for another of my kind
to spawn upon these waters
to drown in salty kisses
to liquefy your wishes
to coil around your body like the serpent of the sea
your friend no enemy – a natural anenome
if you are a boy, a boy like me.
